Phil “The Power” Taylor to retire in 2017

Phil “The Power” Taylor retiring?

After winning his second round robin match in the Singha Beer Grand Slam of darts, a 5-1 win over Ian White at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Phil “The Power” Taylor told RTL7 he would be retiring at the end of the 2017 season (video only available in The Netherlands at the moment).

Six-time Grand Slam winner Taylor told the cameras of RTL7 “I’m retiring at the end of 2017. I won’t be playing any European tournaments, and no Players Championship tournaments”. Taylor went on to say that he will only play PDC invitational tournaments (the Premier league of darts for example” and we imagine that he will also play tournaments he qualifies for based on his worlds ranking (World Grand Prix, World Championships, and, hopefully, the 2017 renewal of the Grand Slam).

56 year old Taylor is the 16 time world champion, and is, undoubtedly, the greatest darts player of all time, and is now one of only 2 or 3 players in the world capable of giving “Mighty” Michael van Gerwen a run for his money in the modern game. His list of achievements is unrivaled, and if his RTL7 interview is to be believed, he will be sorely missed on the world darts scene.
